Client
1
The Objects:
1
Language books
2
Camera
3 Picture of the ocean
The Couple:
This couple loved to travel together and shared a passion for photography. The client’s girlfriend studied languages at university and was keen to develop them further. They had a dream to eventually live by the ocean, and liked to stand on the beach looking out at the sea.
The first holiday they had taken together was to Turkey, and one of their happiest memories was standing at the bough of a ship a la Kate Winslet and Leonardo Di Caprio. The client was willing to dedicate a large budget to making the proposal a memorable one.
The Proposal:
Our recommendation was for the couple to go back to Turkey, where they would go on a sunset cruise on the ocean. The client was to ask his girlfriend to stand at the bough of the boat for a photograph. Down on one knee to get the right angle, he would pull out the ring and propose… in Turkish!
Client 2
The Objects:
1
A copy of ‘Pride and Prejudice’ by Jane Austen
2 A picture of a country manor house
3 A crossword puzzle
The Couple:
This couple enjoyed visiting country mansions around the UK in their spare time. The girlfriend’s favourite novel was ‘Pride and Prejudice’, which she often reread. They often did crosswords and riddle-solving puzzles, challenging each other to see who could complete them first!
We would discover that they enjoyed walks in the countryside., especially in the Peak District. She was also a fan of Colin Firth’s portrayal of Mr Darcy in the television series.
The Proposal:
Our recommendation was for the couple to have a weekend break at Chatsworth. The client was to disappear in the morning, leaving the first clue of a treasure trail on his pillow, for his girlfriend to solve.
Following the trail we would set up through the grounds, she would eventually come to the manor house, where the final clue was to rest beside the stream. As she was reading it, he would appear from behind a bush in a wet white shirt a la Mr Darcy. He would then hold out the ring and tell her how ‘ardently he admired and adored her.’
Client 3
The Objects:
1
An angel from the top of a Christmas tree
2 A picture of a diary
3 Their ‘song’
The Couple:
This couple met on Christmas Eve at midnight mass and shared a love of Christmas. As a result their special song was ‘O Holy Night’ ,which reminded them of their first meeting. The client’s girlfriend had kept a diary since she was young, that he was never allowed to read.
We would discover that the couple enjoyed spending time at home together, and that their four-year old niece was living with them at the time. They were also members of the local church choir.
The Proposal:
We would create personalised baubles for the couple. Each one was to display a happy memory from their time together. On Christmas Eve, the client would swap the baubles on the tree for the special ones we created. On Christmas morning, the client and the niece were to wake the girlfriend with a rendition of ‘O Holy Night’, and then lead her to the tree.
She would be told to read the baubles by following the trail of tinsel that led to the top of the tree. As she got to the top, he would lift their niece to reach down the angel and give it to her. On close inspection, the halo of the angel would turn out to be a ring, and as she realised this, he was to get down on one knee. Each year, they would use their special baubles, adding a new one for each other every Christmas Eve.
These are examples of ideas discussed.
